Elizabeth Gutzke, MSW, LCSWA
Elizabeth (Ellie) is compassionate, competent, energetic and driven at her work. She utilizes a supportive and interactive therapeutic style, drawing from various modalities. In her work, Ellie uses a combination of mindfulness practices, art-based activities, cognitive-behavioral styles, and strengths/empowerment-based approaches. Ellie has successfully helped clients make desired changes, find more meaning and purpose, and cope with challenging emotions and stress. Ellie has a good amount of experience working with people struggling with depression, anxiety, and relationship conflict.
Ellie was born and raised in mid-Michigan and relocated to the Asheville area in the fall of 2017. She earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Michigan State University. Toward the end of her undergraduate career, Ellie had her own personal experiences with trauma that helped shape her into the kindhearted, empathetic individual she is today. It was at this point she began to shift her focus to pursuing a degree in psychotherapy. Ellie returned to her Alma Mater and earned her Masters degree in clinical social work, with a certification in working with geriatric populations.
While earning her Masters degree, Ellie worked for several non-profit organizations. Ellie gained experience supporting individuals through crisis situations at a domestic violence/sexual assault shelter for women and children. She also worked at a behavioral health clinic providing mental health services to under served and uninsured individuals. Her tenure at both agencies gave her experience in providing advocacy services, individual and family counseling, crisis intervention, and facilitating support groups for adolescents and older adults.
Shortly after graduating from Michigan State, Ellie moved to Asheville where she joined The True Self Healing Group healing collective. Although Ellie has experience in working with a wide range of issues, she specializes in the treatment of disordered eating as well as the treatment of compulsive hoarding/acquiring. With her clients, she navigates the murky waters of anxiety and perfectionism, and the challenges of being authentic and vulnerable. She is passionate about journeying with each individual whom she serves, on their path to self discovery. There is nothing more meaningful to Ellie than assisting clients as they find meaning and understanding for their behaviors and what continues to hold them back.
Outside of Ellie’s work, you may find her enjoying many of North Carolina’s outdoor activities and spending quality time with her friends and family. She believes the connectedness nature offers makes time outdoors one of our most reliable allys to promote mental and physical well-being. Ellie wishes you hope and wellness as you take a plunge, try therapy, and embark on this transforming journey of growth, change and self-discovery!
